In June 2007, the City of Iqaluit City seconded Isabel Budke (ICSC employee) to work with the community for 4 months to initiate a long-term visioning and planning process and gain community and Council support for the creation of a Sustainability Coordinator position.
In 2009, the City of Iqaluit created a Sustainability Coordinator position, to coordinate the development and implementation of a Sustainable Community Plan. In 2010, the City of Iqaluit was awarded a Green Municipal Fund grant (through Federation of Canadian Municipalities) to support the development of a Sustainable Community Plan. The City’s Sustainability Coordinator is now undertaking the Project with the support of consultants.
